Investigation Summary
Crash Description
On April 30, 2025, at 8:40 am, a crash involving a passenger car and a pedestrian occurred at the intersection of E Huron St. and N. Division St. At the time of the crash, it was daylight with clear skies, the roadway was dry. Both roads at this intersection are asphalt. E. Huron St. is straight, oriented east-west, with two (2) lanes of travel for each direction, and eastbound traffic approaching the intersection has an added dedicate left turn lane. Division St. is straight, oriented north-south and is one-way northbound, there are two (2) regular traffic lanes and northbound traffic approaching the intersection has an added dedicated right turn lane. This intersection is controlled with a traffic signal which included a dedicated left turn signal for E. Huron St. All sides of the intersection had marked crosswalks with pedestrian crossing signals.
The passenger car, a 2014 Toyota RAV4, was being driven by a 38-year-old female. The pedestrian was a 68-year-old male. The car was turning left from eastbound E. Huron St. to travel northbound on N. Division St. The pedestrian was crossing withing the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection from east to west. As the car made the turn into the northbound lane of N. Division St. the pedestrian was struck. After impacting the pedestrian the car came to a stop still within the crosswalk.
The impact caused significant injuries to the pedestrian. The car turning did have a traffic signal for the turn but still failed to yield to the pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk.
